Featuring Guest Speaker Chenoa Murphy and her workshop on “Diversity From the Inside Out.”

Chenoa Murphy is originally from Memphis, TN and started playing the violin at age three. She was trained in the Suzuki Violin method. She has since performed nationally and internationally, and became a member of the Illinois Symphony Orchestra. Her bachelors, masters degrees are from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. Her opinions have been featured on CNN, NPR Illinois, and Huffington Post. She is currently a wife and mom of two children, bonus mom of 4, and host of her podcast show, ‘Black, White & in Color.’ In 2019, Chenoa founded an online course ‘Introduction to Black Classical Composers and Musicians’ and ‘The Journey Beyond’ to educate and bring to the foreground this lost history of classical music. Her article “Black Representation in Classical Music was featured in the Summer 2020 edition of the American Suzuki Journal. She has facilitated her workshop: Diversity From The Inside Out with several Suzuki organizations.
“The path to diversifying your music studio and repertoire starts with the teacher. It is an inside job. Diversity From The Inside Out sheds light on beliefs, habits, and thinking patterns that could be preventing you as the music teacher from having a culturally eclectic studio. By the end of this workshop, you will have the awareness, language, and tools necessary to equip you to make real change.” – C. Murphy
