06novAll Day08Virtual Piano Workshop

Event Details

Our 2020 Virtual Fall Piano Workshop is in the works!  We are very excited to host a new clinician to our area this year, Rae Kate Shen, from Redlands, CA.
Rae Kate Shen holds a Bachelor’s degree in Piano Performance and a Master of Music in Accompanying Performance from the University of Southern California.
Ms. Shen teaches piano and coordinates the Suzuki Program at the University of Redlands. She is also an adjunct faculty member, mainly teaching Individual Lessons, Class Piano and Ensembles, at Riverside Community College. In addition, she is a registered Suzuki Piano teacher trainer with the SAA. Ms. Shen has studied with many Suzuki Piano trainers and extensively with Dr. Kataoka in the U.S. as well as in Matsumoto, Japan. She continues to work with Dr. Kataoka’s former trainees, both at teacher workshops and Ten-Piano concerts held in Matsumoto and Sacramento, CA. A frequent guest clinician, she also adjudicates for various music organizations, is a founding teacher in the inaugural year of the Carnegie Hall Royal Conservatory Achievement Program, and a concertizing pianist for the Marina Chamber Ensemble. She will open with an online teacher session on Friday, November 6 from 10-1, entitled: “Lessons on the screen: Greener on the other side of the fence.”  Masterclasses will be conducted online all weekend, approximately as follows (may go longer Saturday and Sunday as needed): Fri. 3-6 PM, Sat. 10-6, and Sun. 11-6. Depending on available time, we may schedule a Parent Talk. Teacher lessons will also be available during the weekend, scheduled around student lessons as applicable.
To enable optimal sound for student master classes, teachers are required to submit a video link of each student’s performance of the master class piece no later than a week ahead of the workshop, or by October 30.  This is how the workshop will proceed: 1) Masterclass attendees will receive the appropriate video links ahead of time; 2) Everyone will separately view the link for the student that Rae Kate will then teach.  You’ll need to use a 2nd device for viewing or toggle between the video link and Zoom masterclass.
Listening to performances with higher quality sound, rather than collectively on Zoom, will create a more meaningful experience for all participants.
Teacher registration is due Oct. 9, with an early-bird discounted registration due Sept. 25. Priority for student masterclasses is given to teachers who are current GPSA members (Greater Philadelphia Suzuki Association–it’s not too late to join for this year!) and who sign up for the full weekend workshop by the due date.
Complete registration information has been sent to your inbox. You can also access the registration documents here: [PDF Version] [DOC Version]
I hope to see many of you in November, to give your school year a boost of motivation and stimulating ideas. Wishing all of you a fabulous year of Suzuki teaching!
